There are Many programs and games are nice and interesting ​​for windows xp, but can not be run on windows 7 and vista. Here’s tips and triks on how to run and use the software/application for windows xp that is not compatible with windows 7 and vista.

Use Compatibility Mode

Compatibility Mode is a way of trying to run a program as if in a different operating system, here is the steps :

  1. Right-click on the icon exe program
  2. Click Properties
  3. Click Compatibility tab
  4. It is optional to choose Change settings for all users
  5. Don’t check on “Run this program in compatibility mode for
  6. In the drop-down menu choose the appropriate operating system
  7. Click apply, then OK

If the Compatibility Mode does not work, so you can use other waysas follow :
Use Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit
A different way to solve the problems of compatibility is by download and install a free program from Microsoft called “Microsot Application Compatibility Toolkit”. It Can be downloaded here

Running the old applications properly will require some effort. However it’s never mind if the program is more useful than the new program that just have a more beautiful design

How to check the duration of computer usage in windows

If we do a lot of activity on the computer (for example, writing office document, doing internet  activity such as browsing, chatting, etc),  sometimes it makes us forget about the time so it will make the computer “tired”. Though computers are also like humans that needs time for cooling down or rest. If it is not, the computer will quicker in damage because of overheating components. Therefore, we should be able to control the usage duration of the computer in order to be more durable.

Based on this matter, there are tips/simple way to find the duration of computer usage on Windows, it is “systeminfo”. The duration of computer usage is calculated from boot up to the time of checking. Here are the steps :

  1. Run the Command Prompt by clicking Start > Accessories > Command Prompt . The Command Prompt window will appear, as the screenshot below :

  3. Type the command “systeminfo” (without quotation marks) followed by ENTER at  command prompt
  4. system info

  5. After waiting a few seconds, we can see how long the computer usage by check to the value of “System Up Time”. In this example, since booting up to the time of check, I have been using computers for 51 minutes 11 seconds,  the screenshot below

How to remove recycle bin icon in windows xp

Recycle Bin is a temporary storage for files and folders that we have deleted earlier. Sometimes we delete a file/folder accidentally, whereas we still need that file / folder. Restoring that file / folder from recycle bin, will make us get file/folder again.

To avoid things that are not desirable, we can hide the Recycle Bin icon from the desktop and also from Windows Explorer. Thus others can not easily tamper with the contents of the Recycle Bin that may we still need later. To remove or hide the Recycle Bin icon, follow these steps below :

First, run the group policy editor (gpedit)
Second, after window Group Policy Editor open, then click User
Configuration->Administrative Templates->Desktop

Third, move to the right pane, then double click on “Remove Recycle Bin icon from the desktop”, then it will appear the window “Remove Recycle Bin icon from the desktop”, as the image below

Fourth, select “enabled”
Fifth, proceed by clicking OK and close gpedit
Sixth, log off and then log on again to see the effect

How to manually detect viruses on your computer

As people who have a computer, the virus is a necessity. “if you do not want exposed to the virus, turn off the computer and then buried it in the ground”, as noted by one expert on computer viruses and computer.

Nowadays, There are many anti-virus software on the internet, either paid or free. We just need to install and scan your computer to eradicate the virus. So, how if we want to check whether our computer is infected by virus without using anti virus. The following things can be do :

check process log (alt+ctrl+del)
check and watch whether CPU or memory increasing whereas there is no new program is running

check your flash disk
plug-in your flash disk and check whether there are suspicious file (for example : shorcut, whereas we never create it)

Run regedit and msconfig
Virus often attack system registry or system file so we can’t run both or either of it

Show hidden file
Try to mark show hidden files and uncheck hide operating system file. virus often disable that option of view

Turn on firewall
If it is fail, or suddenly turn off..it must be virus in your computer

After all the above process can be done, then for the protection do the following step :
Turn off usb ports
Set password on bios
Install the reliable anti-virus and do the enable protection
